Reintegration and Recovery among People in Forensic Mental Health and Criminal Legal Systems

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION SYSTEM IS NOW CLOSED

Reviews of the abstracts are now underway. Notifications will go out some time in February 2023. Please direct all inquiries about submissions to conference@iafmhs.org

We will consider FOUR types of submissions:

1. Poster presentation
2. Oral paper presentation
3. Symposium (a minimum of three, maximum of four separate papers that are thematically linked; inclusion of a 5^th presenter, as Discussant, is optional)
4. Round Table (a minimum of three, maximum of five discussants, presenting information and opinions in an open forum)

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSIONS

Poster submissions:

• 100-word (maximum) Abstract; the Abstract will be included in the conference program, so should provide enough information to inform attendees as to the subject matter
• 500-word (maximum) Summary of the presentation
• • The Summary can be structured (e.g., Background/Method/Results for data-driven presentations) or unstructured (e.g., literature review, program descriptions), and will be used by the reviewers to determine acceptance

Paper submissions:

• 100-word (maximum) Abstract; the Abstract will be included in the conference program, so should provide enough information to inform attendees as to the subject matter
• 500-word (maximum) Summary of the presentation
• • The Summary can be structured (e.g., Background/Method/Results for data-driven presentations) or unstructured (e.g., literature review, program descriptions), and will be used by the reviewers to determine acceptance

Symposia submissions:

• 100-word (maximum) Abstract; the Abstract will be included in the conference program, so should provide enough information to inform attendees as to the subject matter
• Three or four individual 250-word (maximum) Summaries of each presentation
• • The Summaries can structured (e.g., Background/Method/Results for data-driven presentations) or unstructured (e.g., literature review, program descriptions), and will be used by the reviewers to determine acceptance
  • Note that the individual paper summaries should include sufficient detail to be considered as individual paper or poster presentations, if the overall symposium is not accepted
• One individual should be identified as Chair of the symposium; this can be a separate individual or one of the presenters (the chair is typically the corresponding author)
• A Discussant is optional, and does not “count” as one of the 3-4 presenters

Round Table submissions:

• 100-word (maximum) Abstract; the abstract will be included in the conference program, so should provide enough information to inform attendees as to the subject matter and highlight the various perspectives that will be presented and discussed during the roundtable.
• One 250-word (maximum) Summary of the topic; this summary will be used by the reviewers to determine acceptance
• • Given the nature of the Round Table, the participants should have recognized expertise in the subject matter (and this should be communicated in the Summary)
  • Round Tables may or may not include formal presentations by each discussant as the goal of Round Tables are to encourage discussion and debate among the discussants as well as with attendees
  • Submitting authors are encouraged to allow enough time for engaging audience members in a Q&A as part of the Round Table (typically one hour)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS

• The presentations are planned to be delivered in-person. IAFMHS will continue to closely monitor the situation and take all necessary precautions, including requiring proof of vaccination and/or proof of negative Covid-19 test as necessary. In the event public health requires it, we may pivot to a virtual format. 

• Attendees will be limited to a maximum of THREE (3) submissions. This does not include co-authorship, only first authorship/presentations. Attendees can be included as co-authors on an unlimited number of submissions, but will only be able to submit a maximum of three presentations as the first, or corresponding, author. 

• Do not wait until the last minute to submit! Log on early enough to ensure that your submission has been processed without any problems. Submissions can be started and later revised, but will not be complete until they are “finalized”. You will receive an electronic confirmation as soon as your submission is complete. NOTE: You will need to create a new log-in for this year's submission.

CALL FOR REVIEWERS

The Scientific Committee is seeking members to review conference abstract submissions for the 2023 Annual Conference of the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services (IAFMHS). 

 As a Reviewer, you will review between 5 to 10 submissions. The review process is electronic, can be completed online, and anchors are provided to guide the rating process. The Scientific Committee will review and select proposals for presentation based on the abstracts submitted and feedback from reviewers. The following are key dates for the review and decision process:

Deadline for expression of interest to review abstract: November 30, 2022
