Requirements for Submissions

Note that the Symposium tab may be ignored for all but Symposia submissions.

1. Poster submissions

  • 100-word (maximum) Abstract; the Abstract will be included in the conference program, so should provide enough information to inform attendees as to the subject matter.
  • 500-word (maximum) Summary of the presentation.
    • The Summary can be structured (e.g., Background/Method/Results/Discussion for data-driven presentations) or unstructured (e.g., literature review, program descriptions), and will be used by the reviewers to determine acceptance.

2. Paper submissions

3. Symposium submissions

Note that due to functioning of the submission portal, there are several symposia-specific submission instructions that MUST be followed to ensure it is appropriately reviewed. One individual should be identified as Chair of the symposium; this can be a separate individual or one of the presenters (the chair will serve as the corresponding author for the overall symposium). A Discussant is optional and does not “count” as one of the three or four presenters.
Symposia chairs must first complete a submission for the full symposium. Then the symposium chair (recommended) or presenting authors can complete submissions for each paper to be included in the symposium, linked via a symposium short title that precedes all full titles, as explained below.
Initial overall symposium submission (first step)
  • A short title and full title using the following convention: SYMPOSIUM SHORT TITLE – Full Title
    • E.g., GENERALIZABILITY OF YOUTH RISK ASSESSMENT - Examinations of the Generalizability of Juvenile Risk Assessment Tools to Cultural Minority Youth
  • 100-word (maximum) Abstract; the Abstract will be included in the conference program, so it should provide enough information to inform attendees as to the subject matter of the symposium.
  • 100-word (maximum) Abstract; the Abstract will be included in the conference program, so it should provide enough information to inform attendees as to the subject matter of the symposium.
  • The symposium chair and presenting first authors should be indicated in the Authors tab.
  • No Presentation Summary is necessary for this initial overall submission.
  • The title and Abstract should be reproduced in the Symposium tab.
  • An optional Discussant can be indicated in the Symposium tab; as a reminder, the Title and Abstract should be reproduced in this tab.
Individual papers in the symposium submissions (second step)
  • Each paper of the symposium will need to be submitted individually by the symposium chair (recommended) or presenting authors as an Oral Paper and titled using the following convention: SYMPOSIUM SHORT TITLE - Paper # - Paper Title
  • Example:
    • GENERALIZABILITY OF YOUTH RISK ASSESSMENT - Paper 1 - The Predictive Validity of the Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth Among Ethnic Minority Youth in New Zealand
    • GENERALIZABILITY OF YOUTH RISK ASSESSMENT - Paper 2 - How Does the Youth Level of Service/Case Management Inventory Perform with Girls in Singapore?
    • GENERALIZABILITY OF YOUTH RISK ASSESSMENT - Paper 3 - Testing the Short-term Assessment of Risk and Treatability: Adolescent Version Among Sexual LGBTQ+ Youth in the United States
    • GENERALIZABILITY OF YOUTH RISK ASSESSMENT - Paper 4 - What Do We Know About the Generalizability of Risk Assessment Tools for Adults vs. Youth Across Multicultural Factors? A Systematic Review
  • The individual paper submissions should otherwise adhere to the instructions for paper submissions described above.
  • The individual paper submissions should otherwise adhere to the instructions for paper submissions described above.
  • Note that the individual paper summaries should include sufficient detail to be considered as individual paper or poster presentations if this option is selected in the Presentation Summary tab (i.e., if the overall symposium is not accepted).

4. Round Table submissions

  • 100-word (maximum) Abstract; the Abstract will be included in the conference program, so it should provide enough information to inform attendees as to the subject matter and highlight the various perspectives that will be presented and discussed during the roundtable.
  • One 500-word (maximum) Summary of the topic and purpose of the Round Table in reference to it; this summary will be used by the reviewers to determine acceptance.
  • Given the nature of the Round Table, the participants should have recognized expertise in the subject matter (and this should be communicated in the Summary).
  • Round Tables may or may not include formal presentations by each discussant, as the goal of Round Tables are to encourage discussion and debate among the discussants as well as with attendees.
  • Round Tables may or may not include formal presentations by each discussant, as the goal of Round Tables are to encourage discussion and debate among the discussants as well as with attendees.
  • The corresponding submitter of a Round Table is encouraged to allow enough time for engaging audience members in a Q&A as part of the Round Table (considering that Round Tables are typically scheduled for one hour).

5. NEW! Virtual Poster submissions

  • Details about how virtual posters will be presented are forthcoming and will be announced soon. There will be an award for the best virtual poster.

Attendees will be limited to a maximum of THREE first-authored submissions.

This does not include submissions on which you are a co-author but not first author/presenter. That is, one can be included as a co-author on an unlimited number of submissions; but they will only be able to submit a maximum of three presentations as the first, or corresponding, author. If you are an author on more than one submission, please use the same email address for each submission to avoid duplicate profiles.

Do not wait until the last minute to submit!

Our submission system this year is new (to IAFMHS) and may be unfamiliar to many attendees. Log on early enough to ensure that your submission has been processed without any problems. Submissions can be started and later revised but will not be complete until they are “finalized” (as indicated under My Submissions). You will receive an electronic confirmation as soon as your submission is complete.

Reviews

Reviewers, both professionals and graduate students, are invited for all topical areas. Please sign up to be a reviewer using the submission portal when you submit a proposal; or, if you do not plan to submit a proposal, using this Google Form.
